Christians often use the term “war room prayer” in reference to spiritual warfare, which is clearly taught in Scripture. War room prayer involves putting on the armor of God (see Ephesians 6:10-11), using spiritual weapons to demolish spiritual strongholds (see 2 Corinthians 10:4-5) and praying for protection against our spiritual enemy (see 1 Peter 5:8-9).
It is vital for us as believers to remember the spiritual warfare going on all around us so we can be fully equipped to stand firm on the truths of God’s Word.
While we do need to be at peace with all men as much as it depends on us (Rom. 12:18), we cannot ignore that an enemy seeks to devour as many as he possibly can. When we talk in terms of war, we are not talking about people being our enemy. We are referring to the devil and spiritual forces of darkness that seek to deceive, kill, and destroy (John 10:10).
In Matthew 6:6, Jesus told us that when you pray, “go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”
Based on this verse, many people use a prayer closet, otherwise known as a war room or a war closet. Having a prayer room in which to pray was the inspiration behind the movie, The War Room, which sparked a fire for many to develop a War Room prayer strategy.
While having a space in your home dedicated to prayer may sound nice, many of us don’t have space for a prayer closet or war room! In this post I’ll share tips for setting up a war room prayer journal or prayer binder, as well as my favorite warfare prayers and Scriptures to help you set up your own prayer War Room. I’ve also included powerful prayer room Scriptures to print and post in your War Room below, so dive in!
Do you want to deepen your prayer life? If this is a fight, it makes sense to be intentional about praying powerful war room prayers and having ready a set (think loaded gun!) of war room Bible verses to do battle with.
Without God’s Word, our prayers are too surface level, unspecific, and fleshly minded.
If we want to pray kingdom prayers with Spirit infused strength, we need to be praying War Room Scriptures.
For our nation, our churches, and our communities.
To pray powerful prayers, the only real thing you need to set up your own prayer room war wall is God’s Word!
The good news is that you don’t need an actual wall for your prayer closet. You can just as easily use a war room binder, prayer journal, or even this portable prayer board to tuck behind your couch when you’re done. Easy peasy! Use what you have available and get creative!
A war room binder is a place for you to write both Scriptures to pray and your prayers based on those Scriptures. The weapons at our disposal are strong enough to demolish strongholds so a prayer binder is where you take up arms consistently and intentionally. It’s a place for creating a prayer strategy and recording answers to prayers as well.
One of the things I did during my monthly personal spiritual retreat last month was select a few powerful Scriptures to pray regularly. I used these bible verses to start a prayer journal.
The 10 powerful War Room scriptures below are essential for any prayer closet, war binder, or place of prayer … which includes any car, bathroom, kitchen or box… anywhere you want to do battle. :)
Many of these war room scriptures came from Chapter 2 of Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer. These were prayers in the war room and taken from the war room movie scriptures.
Please note the entries below the references are my own war room prayers. I’ve had many readers ask what version of the Bible the prayers are. They are not a version of the Bible; they are the verse in my own words. I include them here to help others who do not know how to begin praying scripture. I’ve also included the Scripture the prayer is based on as well.
“But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness (NASB).”
“Lord, I claim no righteousness of my own. I’m spiritually poor, utterly dependent, a beggar. But I cling to this: You justify the ungodly. This is the basis on which I pray and do battle.”
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (NASB).”
“I acknowledge my struggle is not against flesh and blood. This battle isn’t about the physical issue I’m facing. It is against rulers, against powers, against the world forces of darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. This is where I will do battle Lord, and I will do it in prayer.”
“When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him (NASB).”
“According to Your Word, Lord, my enemy is disarmed and embarrassed. He is overruled (Eph 1:20-22), mastered (Phil 2:9-11), rendered powerless (Heb 2:14) and his works have been destroyed (I John 3:8). I speak these truths into this stronghold in my life/family/loved one, Lord. I speak TRUTH where lies have prevailed.”
“far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come NASB)”
“Christ is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else, not only in this world but also in the world to come. He is the Supreme One, not this stronghold, not the lies this stronghold has been erected on, not the enemy who has waged war against me. Christ is far above and HE will prevail.”
“ For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (NASB).”
“At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. I confess the Lordship of Christ. I renounce all other gods and ungodly deeds. I bow to the headship and authority of Jesus Christ alone.”
“ I will extol You, O Lord , for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.” (NASB)
“I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. You are not willing to give me up to my spiritual enemies, Lord. You aren’t willing to let me go. You will fight for me and complete the victory in me.”
“ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.” (NASB)
“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me. You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.” I trust in Your great love to uphold me, Lord. My battle is not over. I walk through treacherous ground yet I will trust You to save and deliver me. You will fight for me.”
“A nd do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (NASB)
“Lead me not into temptation, Lord. Deliver me from evil for Yours is the kingdom and authority and glory and I desire to live for Your kingdom, not the enemy’s.
“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.” (NASB)
“You are faithful, Lord, to strengthen me against any attack and to protect me from the evil one. I trust in Your faithfulness as I face this day.”
“ Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” (NASB)
“Lord, You are able to keep me from stumbling. You will present me blameless in Your presence. It is upon this hope I cast myself and acknowledge Your authority, power, and majesty. To You be all the glory and honor. It is for these things- for Your glory and honor- that I ask Your mighty hand to bring about victory in my life. Amen and amen!”
